Oud is highly valued by perfumers for its sweet, woody, aromatic and complex scent.

It's  formed in the heartwood of the aquilaria tree when it becomes infected with a type of mould (Phialophora parasitica).

The tree reacts by producing a precious, dark and fragrant resin from which is where the perfume ingredient is derived. 

The scent is an ancient one that has been used for thousands of years in the Middle East and Asia both at home and in religious ceremonies. In the Middle East, where oud is most common, it is considered a cultural touchstone and highly prestigious.

Due to it's high demand and extreme rarity in the wild, the trees are now cultivated.

Our Oud Essential Oil is a lighter version of the wild grown, rare Aquilaria and comes from a Cambodian Plantation.
